WELCOME 

Welcome to the website of the Marietta Chapter, Ohio Society, Sons of the American Revolution. The  participation of our chapter and roughly 80 members (including 20 youth members and yet even more awaiting approval of their applications) brings recognition to our Society as we work to perpetuate the people and events of the American Revolution, promote patriotism, and preserve the ideals of freedom.  On behalf of our members, I invite you to join us in patriotic activities and programs in the communities around Southeast Ohio.
We are pleased to announce the addition to a new research project on our website, the History of Fort Harmar. Millie (Covey) Fry, a member of our sister organization, the Marietta Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, has just completed an extensive study of this United States military fortification on the west bank of the Muskingum River, opposite Marietta. Using diaries, correspondence, historical works and numerous other sources which she details elsewhere on this site, Millie has compiled a list of those soldiers and civilians who resided at this remote outpost on the frontier. Some of these soldiers also served in the Revolution. Built in 1785, the fort served to evict squatters before the settlement of the early Marietta pioneers less than 3 years later, was a place where treaties were negotiated and signed with native tribes and was a home for soldiers who took part in other important events regarding the settlement of the Northwest Territory, Click the drawing (RIGHT) by Capt. We conduct scholarship and  recognition programs for high school and elementary school students and for Eagle Scouts.  Many of our members go into school classrooms, often in Revolutionary War uniforms or other period dress, and make presentations on the people and events of the Revolution, the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, and other patriotic themes. We conduct Revolutionary War grave restoration projects, document these graves (Graves Registration Committee) and conduct ceremonies related to the patriots who supported American's struggle for Independence at home and on the battlefield, as well as the pioneers who settled of the Northwest Territory. Our Chapter proudly recognizes deserving schools, businesses, and organizations with Flag

Certificates for their proper and prominent display of our Flag.  Our Society is an active participant in historic battle site observances and other patriotic programs.  The Marietta Chapter Color Guard participates in parades and posts the Colors at civic and historic events.
